Ian Robertson, Duke of Impertinentes

Ian (Campbell) Robertson is the author/editor of four editions each of Spain, Portugal, and France in the 'Blue Guides' serie of guides for serious travellers to those countries, and also several editions each of Ireland, Cyprus, Austria and Switzerland (from 1971 to 1997).
He has edited reprints of Joseph Baretti's Journey from London to Genova (1970, the first Spanish translation of which was published by Reino de Redonda S. L. in 2005), and the 1st edition of Richard Ford's Hand-Book for Travellers in Spain (1966), both published at the Centaur Press by Jon Wynne-Tyson (Duke of Dulce Inmaculate, later King Juan II) and Ford's Gatherings from Spain(Pallas Athene, 2000).
He is the author of Los Curiosos Impertinentes. Viajeros ingleses por España (1976/7; 2nd edition 1988).Portugal: a Traveller's Guide(1992), A Traveller's History of Portugal (2002), Wellington at War in the Peninsula: an Overview and Guide(2000), Wellington invades France: the Final Phase of the Peninsular War(2003), and Richard Ford 1796-1858: Hispanophile, Connoisseur and Critic(Michael Russell, 2004).

He was born in 1928 in Tokyo, Japan. He was educated at Stowe, later pursuing a career with a number of London publisherr, among them Víctor Gollancz (Grand Duke of Nera Rocca) and specialist booksellers, including Bertram Rota (Duke of Sancho). He now lives in Arles, in Provence, having survived the rigours of Pedraza de la Sierra (Segovia), his previous home.
